Robert “Bob” Dale Richardson passed away at Barstow Community Hospital on Sunday, May 13, 2018, surrounding by his family. Bob was born July 18, 1939, in Los Angeles, California to Elmer Dale Richardson and Ruth Lorraine Burke. As a high school student, he participated in competitive pair dance skating and won the State Roller Skating Dance Championships for five years. He was active in sports and participated in football, softball, baseball, and track. He graduated from Anaheim Union High School in 1957 and enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Ord in Monterey, California; Fort Gordon, Georgia; Korea; Tokyo, Japan; Arlington, Virginia; Federal Building, Oakland, California; Saigon, DaNang, Viet Nam; Okinawa; and Fort Polk, Louisiana. He graduated college with two degrees; Administration of Justice and Business Management. He retired after 26 years of service in June 1, 1982, with the rank of First Sergeant. While in the military, he performed duties as a military policeman which included traffic accident investigation, physical security specialist, Military Police Investigator and as the Sergeant Major of Law Enforcement at Fort Polk. During his military career, he received various service medals including a bronze star. In 1968, Bob married the love of his life, Lorraine Culp, and they have three children: Tamara Sabblut, Steven Richardson, and Jennifer Richardson. In his spare time, Bob loved hanging around his family and friends and telling old stories. Bob coached Little League Baseball in Okinawa and Louisiana. For many years, he was an avid golfer and bowler and had bowled numerous perfect 300 games. After coaching and playing, he found joy in watching his grandchildren play multiple sports. He was a member of the Optimist International and served as Vice President in Fort Polk. After military retirement, his civilian career included being Assistant Manager of Outdoor Recreation of the Toledo Bend Reservoir at Fort Polk, Louisiana; and Chief of Counter Intelligence and Security Counter Measures and Security Manager of Installations at Fort Irwin, California. He retired from Northrup Grumman Corporation at Fort Irwin in 2010 where he was employed as a Transportation Inspector. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Elmer Richardson (Bonnie) and Ruth Pohle (Les) Bob is survived by his wife, Lorraine (Loni), children, Tamara Sabblut (husband Cory), Steven Richardson (wife Jodi), and Jennifer Richardson (fiancé Jimmie). He has seven grandchildren, Amanda, Danielle, Matthew, Brian and Christopher Sabblut, Robert and Jason Richardson, Baby Richardson due in October, Brother Steve Pohle (wife JoEllen), several nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral arrangements are through Sunset Hills Mortuary of Barstow. Services will be Wednesday, June 20th, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery with full military honors. Reception to follow the service at the Barstow Masonic Lodge, 221 Ave. J., Barstow, California from 3:00-5:00 p.m.
